Recess on the Hill
So, while demwork.com will continue to be composed primarily of job descriptions, I’ve decided to post the occasional article as well. Sometimes there’s information that is good to know when you’re looking for a job on the Hill. This first one is short, but it’s important to know that right now the Congress is in recess.
What does this mean for you? Well, while most offices don’t want to get calls after you send them a resume (unless they’ve already contacted you), when the Congress is in recess, we’re much less busy. If you wanted to try to get a meeting with a staff member from your home district/state, make a call to a contact, or just take a chance and come hand out resumes (although this last one rarely works), this would be the week to do it. You’re likely to get more attention because there’s just not as much going on. The caveat is that because recesses aren’t busy, there’s a higher than normal likelihood that whoever you would want/need to talk to would be on vacation.
Come see us. After all, it’s the people’s house.
