Regional Field Organizer [WLOU-45]

OVERVIEW : The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a national not-for-profit public interest organization, invites applications for the full-time position of Regional Field Organizer to work in the organization’s Washington Legislative Office under the direct
supervision of the National Field Director. The responsibility of the Regional Field Organizer is to work as an integral part of the Field Unit of the Washington Legislative Office in support of a field program that will reach and mobilize concerned Americans
and persuade them to act in support of the ACLU.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Overseeing a multi-state region to implement comprehensive field initiatives, including identifying key Members of Congress, working with ACLU affiliates and community leaders to actively influence them on identified priorities. Planning and executing grassroots mobilization strategies, including event organizing, creation of public outreach materials, public speaking and conducting trainings on federal legislative issues. Implementing programs that persuade individuals and groups
to support the legislative program. Working to increase our capacity to communicate quickly and effectively with ACLU members, affiliates and other concerned individuals about pending federal legislation and ACLU legislative priorities. Developing and working with new and existing contacts and coalitions to build grassroots capacity in assigned region. Other duties relating to the work of the ACLU as may be required by the Director of the Washington Office or her designees.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum of four to five years of experience with organizing and grassroots mobilization. Knowledge of the legislative process. Self-starter with strong time-management skills. Demonstrated strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Prior experience with supervising volunteers or staff a plus. Either the knowledge of priority issues of the ACLU or the ability to quickly become familiar with them. Must be able to work independently, but also as part of a dynamic and growing field department. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to analyze and effectively communicate lay understanding of issues relating to law, public policy and legislative process. Willingness to travel.
COMPENSATION : Salary is commensurate with experience, within the parameters of the ACLU compensation scale. Excellent benefits package provided.
