Senior Field Manager - Center for A New American Dream
Location: Takoma Park, MD (three blocks from the Takoma Metro Station on the red line)
Benefits: 32 hours per week (Monday – Thursday); medical insurance; three weeks paid vacation plus one week off at end of December. After one year, additional 5% of salary contributed by employer to 403(b)7 (no match required) and quality of life benefit. Salary mid 40’s.
Background: The Center for a New American Dream helps Americans consume responsibly to protect the environment, enhance quality of life and promote social justice. We work with individuals, institutions, communities and businesses to conserve natural resources, counter the commercialization of our culture and promote positive changes in the way goods are produced and consumed. The Sr. Field Manager will position the Center for a New American Dream in communities across the country with innovative, strategic, visionary and well-developed grassroots outreach programs.
Position Summary
The successful candidate will initiate and carry out a comprehensive strategic plan that raises New American Dream’s national and local visibility with specific goals to make measurable change from community and policy based perspectives. Climate change, and a Carbon Conscious Consumer campaign will be key focus for New Dream and its outreach work in the next 18 months. In addition to work on carbon specific initiatives, the Senior Field Manager will collaborate with all staff and departments to ensure that each aspect of our education, policy, marketplace and purchasing work is fully integrated into New Dream outreach efforts.
This position includes significant room for creativity and vision. The successful candidate will be extremely hard working, and excited about the issues. The Senior Field Manager will possess an expertise in traditional organizing techniques and be comfortable using cutting edge online technologies as well. Strong oral and written skills are a must. Strong preference for an individual with an intuitive ability to develop a sophisticated plan, build momentum for the plan and deliver results with minimum supervision. The Sr. Field Manager will be responsible for managing fellows, internal and external interns and volunteers.
Duties
• Establish strategic work-plans for large scale grassroots outreach programs that are community/regionally and nationally based with an emphasis initially on carbon and climate
• Coordinate and oversee working outreach team
• Design and implement programs that result in measurable community and national outcomes
• Assist in creation of funding proposals and reports in collaboration with development staff
• Attend local and national conferences relating to consumption and the environment
• Develop and submit progress reports
Qualifications: BA/BS with minimum three years’ experience in organizing and outreach. A background in environmental issues is not necessary, but proven track record in effective outreach, social networking and issue based organizing is. Outstanding oral and written communication, personal leadership and project management skills with the proven ability to build successful teams. Must be strategic, creative thinker and possess a positive “can-do” attitude and sense of humor. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required. Must demonstrate commitment to New Dream values and mission.
