Director of State and Local Programs - Young Democrats of America

The Young Democrats of America (YDA) is the nation’s largest youth-led, partisan political organization. As the official youth arm of the Democratic Party since 1932, YDA builds strong local chapters to engage young people under the age of 36 in partisan politics, build a youth voting bloc for Democrats, and develop a new generation of progressive leaders. YDA has chartered chapters in 46 states and U.S. territories with over 1,500 local chapters. YDA’s national and state staff work with national, state, and local leaders across the country on peer-to-peer young voter mobilization campaigns, issue advocacy, leadership and skills trainings, and other activities to grow sustainable chapters and build the national infrastructure of YDA.

Based in Washington, DC

Salary + Benefits: $50,000 to $60,000 annually (depending on experience).

Job Description: The Director of State and Local Programs is a senior-level position that reports directly to the Executive Director. The Director of State and Local Programs is responsible for working with state and local chapters to build the long-term infrastructure of the Young Democrats. This position will work closely with the Political Director as well as YDA’s State Executive Directors.

The Director of State and Local Programs:
ê Oversees state and local programs to grow chapters, increase membership, and train activists;
ê Manages state partnership application process and all related chapter building programs;
ê Develops strategy for long-term chapter growth and local organizational development;
ê Supports state staff and state elected officers on day-to-day operations and long-term planning;
ê Serves as main point of contact for local chapter leaders;
ê Develops innovative program activities for state and local chapters;
ê Creates training and organizing materials and facilitates sharing of best practices; and
ê Attends and leads multiple national, regional, state, and local conferences and trainings.

Applicants should have at least 3-5 years experience in Democratic or progressive politics. Ideal applicant will have previous experience working for membership and/or affiliate based organizations. Knowledge of YDA structure and chapters is helpful but not required. Youth organizing experience (professional or volunteer) is preferred.

Applicants should be detail-oriented, comfortable with multi-tasking, and able to work in a fast-paced office environment. Familiarity with online volunteer or membership management systems is a plus. National travel is required. This position will eventually supervise additional staff. Duties: Write press releases and media advisories. Research and track opponent’s positions and press. Maintain press lists and media relationships at the direction of communications and campaign management. Advance events.

Finance Assistant - Ciresi for Senate

This role calls for a dedicated, enthusiastic, detail-oriented superstar. Duties include, but are not limited to:
The Finance Assistant will staff the candidate while he calls potential donors and update the campaign database with pledges and details of the conversation. S/he will manage house parties throughout the state. S/he will be responsible for processing incoming contributions.

This position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to manage a lot of projects simultaneously and cheerfully, and attention to detail. Previous fundraising experience or training is required. Knowledge of NGP software is preferred. You must have reliable transportation.

Field Organizers - Ciresi for Senate

The Ciresi for Senate campaign is seeking full-time field organizers to assist in voter and delegate organizing for the 2008 Senate campaign. Ciresi for Senate is building a team of dedicated, enthusiastic field organizers for this important race. The field organizers will be the primary representative of Ciresi for Senate in their region. She/he will be responsible for day-to-day outreach to voters/delegates in their area. This is an excellent opportunity to join a campaign at the beginning and be a part of it all.

Duties include, but not limited to:
-conducting outreach to delegates and voters
-recruiting and managing a core group of volunteers
-organizing phone banks and canvasses
-providing support to campaign manager and candidate while in their region
-assisting in selection of sites and turnout for events
-developing and maintaining relationships with key delegates and groups within the region
-advising management on how to localize the statewide plan to fit their community
-additional administrative tasks as necessary

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer proficiency is required. Candidates should have one year of experience in grassroots organizing, previous experience in electoral campaigns and in Minnesota is preferred. Experience in volunteer recruitment and management is required. A four year degree is preferred. You must have access to reliable transportation. Data Analyst - Democratic National Committee (DNC)

The Democratic National Committee is seeking to hire a Data Analyst located at Democratic National Headquarters in Washington, DC.

This individual will be responsible for various aspects of the DNC’s National Voter Database. This includes, but is not limited to, loading of data files, creation of lists for state parties and other organizations, managing the process of preparing data to be
distributed to the states, etc.

The successful candidate must be proficient with SQL, data analysis, and database development. Candidates should also have at least 2-3 years of related professional experience and/or a degree in Computer Science. Experience using either Perl or PHP for data manipulation is a plus.
