Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan is seeking a Communications Director. The Communications Director is responsible for all office external communications and public relations activities, including managing a staff of seven. The Communications Director is an advisor to the Secretary of State, Executive Deputy Secretary of State and plays a crucial role in strategic communications decisions.

This individual is responsible for drafting and releasing media advisories, press releases, speeches, news actualities, and generating media coverage through events and public releases. Responsibilities also include supervision of our publications operations, including publishing the Missouri Constitution, Missouri Roster, and the Official Manual of the State of Missouri (”Blue Book”).

This individual must also be comfortable dealing with both political and policy issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Four years of communications experience with a fast-paced government office, organization, business, media outlet, or as a journalist.

* Ability to plan and execute effective public events and press
conferences.

* A Bachelors degree from an accredited four -year college or
university.

* Excellent oral and written communications skills

* Excellent organizational and time management skills

* Ability to provide constructive feedback to the communications team and make edits accordingly.

* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead a close knit team.

* Good sense of humor

Government Relations Associate - Save Darfur Coalition

The Save Darfur Coalition, www.SaveDarfur.org, an alliance of 181 human rights, faith-based, and civil society organizations working to raise public awareness and mobilize an effective response to the genocide in Darfur, seeks a Government Relations Associate to play a central role in Save Darfur’s efforts to expand our U.S. congressional, administration, and coalition member outreach.

The Government Relations Associate will work as a member of the Save Darfur Policy and Government Relations team, reporting to the Director of Government Relations. Responsibilities include assisting with overall legislative outreach efforts, serving as primary point of contact for select congressional offices, committees, and administration offices, and drafting regular legislative policy updates for internal and external audiences. The Government Relations Associate will also attend hearings and briefings, meet/communicate regularly with NGOs and activist organizations, and help craft Save Darfur’s legislative strategy.

Candidates should have at least 2 – 4 years congressional, lobbying, or applicable administration experience, including work on foreign policy issues. Advocacy or campaign experience a plus. Prior knowledge of Darfur/Sudan issues a plus.

Senior Outreach Coordinator - Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH Office)

Principal duties include organizing town hall meetings and other public events, building relationships with New Hampshire organizations and municipalities, and developing innovative ways to better serve the residents of New Hampshire’s First Congressional District. The individual will work closely with the District Manager, the Press Secretary and the Chief of Staff to coordinate a wide range of events, including issue roundtables, field hearings, and meetings with veterans’ organizations, municipalities, citizens’ groups, and the business community. He or she will develop an intimate knowledge of the state of New Hampshire, state and local issues, community events, and important news stories.

A successful applicant will have excellent communications skills and an ability to represent the Congressional office in a variety of situations. He or she must be able to handle multiple projects at the same time, maintaining superb attention to detail. Excellent writing skills are essential. Experience organizing events, working with community groups, and knowledge of New Hampshire are strongly preferred.

This is not an entry-level position. Starting salary will depend on the experience and skills of the applicant. Working hours vary, with some evening and weekend time required. Emerge America is a political leadership training program for Democratic women. THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a highly motivated, talented, and dynamic individual to serve as the Affiliate Director. This position will report to the Chief Operating Officer. The Affiliate Director’s primary responsibility will be to replicate the Emerge America program and manage the affiliates’ development from inception through sustainability. This position has tremendous growth possibilities as Emerge America continues to replicate in additional states each year.

THE POSITION

  • Manage the development of affiliate programs: Provide technical assistance and coaching to affiliates in budgeting, board and alumnae development, fundraising, recruitment and selection of classes, and strategic planning
  • Ensure the quality of curriculum, training, and alumnae networks across the affiliate network;
  • Research and implement expansion of program into targeted states;
  • Train and support new affiliate programs;
  • Foster collaboration among affiliates and strengthen services to affiliates;
  • Organize bi-annual convening of Emerge affiliates and Emerge alumnae;
  • Support the growing infrastructure of Emerge America;
  • Represent the organization and build networks of diverse women, including elected officials, political activists, donors, non-profit and political communities, the media, and the public.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Non-profit management experience in some of the following functions: boards of directors, financial management, administrative functions, program development and fundraising;
