National Affiliate Director - Emerge America

Emerge America is a political leadership training program for Democratic women. Our mission is to identify, educate and inspire Democratic women to pursue elective office at the local, state and national levels. Emerge originated in the San Francisco Bay Area (www.emergeca.org) five years ago and currently has state-based programs in six other states. THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a highly motivated, talented, and dynamic individual to serve as the Affiliate Director. This position will report to the Chief Operating Officer. The Affiliate Director’s primary responsibility will be to replicate the Emerge America program and manage the affiliates’ development from inception through sustainability. This position has tremendous growth possibilities as Emerge America continues to replicate in additional states each year.

THE POSITION

  • Manage the development of affiliate programs: Provide technical assistance and coaching to affiliates in budgeting, board and alumnae development, fundraising, recruitment and selection of classes, and strategic planning
  • Ensure the quality of curriculum, training, and alumnae networks across the affiliate network;
  • Research and implement expansion of program into targeted states;
  • Train and support new affiliate programs;
  • Foster collaboration among affiliates and strengthen services to affiliates;
  • Organize bi-annual convening of Emerge affiliates and Emerge alumnae;
  • Support the growing infrastructure of Emerge America;
  • Represent the organization and build networks of diverse women, including elected officials, political activists, donors, non-profit and political communities, the media, and the public.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Non-profit management experience in some of the following functions: boards of directors, financial management, administrative functions, program development and fundraising;
  • Ability to develop trusted and effective working relationships with diverse and multi-cultural constituencies, including boards of directors, staff, donors, volunteers and a diverse array of supporters and stakeholders;
  • Self-starter – ability to proactively plan and create …

  • Proven leadership ability;
  • Excellent written and oral communications;
  • Effective multi-tasking abilities and efficiency in time management;
  • Comfort with public speaking;
  • Minimum of five-seven years relevant professional work experience;
  • Demonstrated commitment to Democratic ideals and passion for advancing women in all their diversity;
  • Knowledge of women’s political leadership issues and political experience;
  • Campaign experience a plus
  • Experience with the Emerge program a strong plus.

JOB SCHEDULE AND LOCATION:

  • Travel required (4-6 days per month);
  • Occasional night and weekend hours;
  • Start date will be in April, 2008;
  • Office is in San Francisco, California.

Regional Field Directors - Maine Democratic Party Coordinated Campaign

The Maine Democratic Party Coordinated Campaign is seeking to hire 11 Regional Field Directors (RFD) to play a critical field organizing position within the Maine Democratic Coordinated Campaign (Victory 2008) and have responsibility in building the campaign’s capacity and infrastructure in their region. They will report directly to their respective Congressional District Field Director.

The job entails executing a field plan to boost the performance of all Democrats on the ballot in his/her geographic area. The RFD will be required to meet aggressive voter contact goals through a combined use of phone banks, canvasses and events. He/she will be directly responsible for delivering the margin of victory in that area and may include management of additional staff within their specific region. The RFDs will also work with County Committees, Town Committees, Precinct and Neighborhood leaders recruited in 2007 and other local activists to build a strong network of grassroots volunteers to implement the ’08 voter contact program.

Other parts of the job description may include but are not limited to:

- Work with the party infrastructure (County, local, etc) to build long term
- Organize events, house parties and community actions in your counties
- Conduct outreach to and maintain relationships with local allies and partner groups
- Complete weekly activity reports indicating progress towards goals
- Work to build on the efforts of the formal democratic organizations in your assigned area.
- Assist the County Chairs with assessing the political infrastructure of the municipalities within their counties and developing a field plan to address the assessment
- Work to maintain institutional history and support for the current and future candidates.

It is a high-paced, data-driven job in an intense but rewarding atmosphere. The salary is $30,000/yr (+100% of health insurance costs).
