Special Projects Associate - Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (Democrat)

Special Projects Associate, Office of Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter, New Hampshire District Office. Principal duties include working on a range of projects with businesses, municipalities, and non-profit organizations. The individual will work collaboratively with the legislative staff in Washington to solve problems for New Hampshire constituents.

A successful applicant will have experience working for an institution as a principal liaison to other organizations. He or she must have the maturity and judgment required to interact with community leaders and to serve as a representative of the Congressional office. The individual must have great attention to detail, excellent research and writing skills, and the ability to follow multiple projects through to conclusion. Experience with grants or with federal agencies is helpful. Previous experience in New Hampshire is preferred.

Temporary Staff Assistant/Permanent Legislative Staff - Rep. Abercrombie (Democrat)

A temporary staff assistant will be hired while the current staff assistant is on maternity leave starting mid-March 2008. When the staff assistant returns from maternity leave, the new hire will be trained for a position on the legislative staff.

Staff Assistant duties include greeting visitors, answering the telephone, and answering constituent requests for general information and tours. The Staff assistant also monitors delivery and pickup of materials, maintains the front office, logs in mail and e-mail, and assists with various administrative and legislative duties.

Legislative Staff duties may include developing and planning legislative initiatives and monitoring legislative developments within Committees and on the House floor. Writing committee and floor speech notes, drafting constituent correspondence, creating background memos, and meeting with constituents and special interest groups on behalf of the Member are also regular responsibilities.

Start date is mid-March 2008. Salary will start in the mid twenties.
